New general surgeon joins UM Shore Regional Health

EASTON — University of Maryland Shore Regional Health and its affiliate, University of Maryland Shore Medical Group, recently welcomed a new general surgeon to the University of Maryland Shore Surgical Care practice, at 503 B Dutchmans Lane.

Dr. Andrew J. Pelczar has joined Dr. Hugo Bonatti, Dr. Aboubakr Khairat and Susan Ondrushek, physician assistant.

Pelczar, a Kent County native, earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the U.S. Naval Academy and earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, according to a Shore Health news release. He completed a surgical internship and a general surgery residency at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia. He has an extensive military background, having practiced general surgery in the U.S. and abroad during deployments to the Persian Gulf, Somalia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Afghanistan.

Prior to joining UM Shore Surgical Care, he was a member of the Department of Surgery at Naval Hospital Bremerton in Bremerton, Wash. Pelczar is certified by the American Board of Surgery, according to the release.
