Queen Anne's County Sheriff Gary Hofmann has announced the promotion of four deputies.

After a written examination, an outside agency oral interview and a review of work history, the four were selected for promotions. Sgt. Mark Meil, 39, who has been with the Sheriff's Office since 1999 serving in the Patrol Division and Narcotics Task Force, was promoted to the rank of first sergeant assigned to administration. Meil, who has prior experience with the Baltimore City Police and the U.S. Marine Corps, is a recent graduate from the FBI National Academy. He also has served on the Sheriff's SWAT Team and teaches defensive tactics and collapsible baton use.
