EASTON - A one-car accident about 1:30 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Route 50 west between Dutchmans Lane and Glen Ridge Road killed two people, Easton police said.

According to police, an 84-year-old man from Laurel was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry west on Route 50 and witnesses told police they saw the car weaving in and out of the lanes, eventually hitting the ditch on the side of the road, which caused the car to overturn, go up into the embankment and come to a final resting place right-side-up on the road.

Police said while the car was in motion after hitting the ditch, an 82-year-old female passenger, also from Laurel, was ejected from the car and landed in front it.

The 84-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, and the 82-year-old woman was taken to Memorial Hospital at Easton before dying from her injuries.

The road in the area on Route 50 west where the accident is currently closed as of 3:50 p.m. on Thursday so police can reconstruct the scene. Traffic was rerouted onto state Route 322.
