Brighter Christmas Fund

For a while, Destiny was on cloud nine with Howard, who treated her like a princess — and he was her prince. Although they were not yet married, she began treating Howard like her husband, and her son treated him like a father.

Because she is disabled, she considered herself the luckiest woman in the world. She felt she didn’t deserve Howard.

The fairy tale ended, however, when Howard became emotionally and mentally abusive toward Destiny, making her think she was the problem and she needed to make him happy.

The abuse worsened when Howard was under the influence of drugs. The abuse became physical and sexual. Howard used Destiny’s disability and his own strength to his advantage, often overpowering her.

The final straw for Destiny was when Howard, the man she thought she loved more than anything in this world, raped her. Destiny finally had enough and decided this relationship couldn’t be what real love is supposed to look like.

Destiny obtained an extended protective order, and Howard was convicted and incarcerated. She finally began to feel safer and started the healing process. However, the abusive relationship has taken a toll on her.

Suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety, she is looking over her shoulder constantly. She has nightmares. Money is so tight it’s hard for her to get enough groceries to live on during the week. Some days are overwhelming for her, and she still is trying to heal from the pain and abuse her boyfriend caused her.

Destiny wants the best for her son and would love to give him an amazing Christmas. She deserves a brighter Christmas, too.
