ST. MICHAELS — The St. Michaels town commissioners announced their support of Gov. Larry Hogan’s executive order requiring mandatory mask wearing effective 5 p.m. Friday, July 31.

The commissioners had already passed Ordinance 515 the prior Tuesday, requiring mandatory mask wearing in all public places, indoors and outdoors. There is a $50 fine for non-compliance.

At noon Saturday, Aug. 1, St. Michaels police officers were on Talbot Street passing out masks in order to encourage compliance.

Writing a municipal fine is not the objective; rather, compliance is the goal, according to a statement from SMPD.
