ANNAPOLIS — Falling ice and debris have closed lanes and are causing delays on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Friday evening.
The Maryland Transportation Authority said debris has obstructed traffic eastbound on the Bay Bridge on Friday, Feb. 19.
One car may have had its windshield damaged by ice and other debris on the bridge, according to reports.
One lane is closed down because of debris and there is a 5-mile delay eastbound headed to the Eastern Shore just before 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19. MDTA said a westbound lane was also blocked because of debris but there were no current delays.
Winter storms brought snow and plenty of ice to the Eastern Shore and other parts of Maryland including on the bridge. MDTA officials said Friday that snow and ice can accumulate on the bridge.
“During natural weather events, snow and ice can accumulate on the Bay Bridge. Crews continuously monitor the bridge. Stay alert for changing traffic patterns. MDTA will proactively close lanes temporarily as a safety precaution. Remove ice and snow from your vehicle before driving,” the state agency said in a statement Friday evening.
