Casey Cep to discuss bestselling book ‘Furious Hours’

RIDGELY — The Caroline County Public Library will host Eastern Shore native, Rhodes Scholar and New York Times bestselling author Casey Cep to discuss her book, “Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud and the Last Trial of Harper Lee,” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Cep will answer audience questions and sign copies of her book in the North Caroline High School auditorium.

The book, which Oprah Winfrey called one to watch for in 2019, tells the story of Harper Lee’s obsession with a serial killer’s crimes in Alabama in the years after she wrote “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

“Furious Hours” debuted in May at No. 6 on The New York Times‘ nonfiction bestseller list.

Time magazine wrote, “Cep’s book is a marvel. In elegant prose, she gives us the fullest story yet of Lee’s post-Mockingbird life in New York — boozy, unproductive, modest despite her means, yet full of books and theater … Cep’s is an account emotionally attuned to the toll that great writing takes, and shows that sometimes one perfect book is all we can ask for, even while we wish for another.”

After graduating from Harvard College with a degree in English, Cep earned a master’s degree in theology at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times and The New Republic, among many other publications. “Furious Hours” is her first book.

Copies of “Furious Hours” will be available for purchase at the event courtesy of Barnes & Noble. For more information, contact the library at 410-479-1343 or info@carolib.org.
