CENTREVILLE — Calling young artists! The annual Month of the Young Child Poster Contest is underway.
Fliers are posted on the schools website and circulated through area day care centers recently announcing the annual contest sponsored by the Queen Anne’s County Early Childhood Committee, chaired by Mary Beth Johnson. The Early Childhood Committee is a subcommittee of the Queen Anne’s County Council for Children and Youth.
The contest is for children, ages 2 to 8, competing in two divisions: age 2 through pre-kindergarten and kindergarten through second grade. The winner in each division will receive a $50 gift card from Shore United Bank. Copies of the winning posters will be reproduced and distributed around the county as part of the Month of the Young Child celebration in April.
Participants are asked to complete the following sentence: “My favorite outdoor activity is ...” and draw a picture to illustrate their answer. For children too young to write legibly, an adult may print what the child says on the poster for them. Posters are to be designed on a regular 8-by-11-inch piece of paper. Children may use markers, crayons, colored pencils or paint.
Children should place their name, age and grade, address, phone number and the name of their school or day care center on the back of their entry.
Entries may be dropped off at local elementary schools, county libraries, child care centers or the Judy Center Partnership. The deadline for entries is Feb. 27.
Contest participants and their families are invited to attend the Month of the Young Child proclamation and celebration with the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at the Liberty building in Centreville.
