EASTON — Fans of raw, original folk rock music should enjoy this weekend’s shows in the Avalon Theatre’s Stoltz Listening Room.
At 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, the Bovine Social Club will celebrate the music and poetry of Tom Waits. At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15, Pierce Edens, known for his grunge-folk rock style, will perform.
The Bovine Social Club’s “Clap Hands” show recreates the iconic Tom Waits’ poetry and songs.
For years, BSC has been lighting up audiences with its blend of folk music informed by Celtic, old time, Gospel, countr, and bluegrass. As fans of Waits, the band has performed its interpretations of Waits’ perfect spectacle of love and misery, angst and serenity in pure Americana style since 2012.
Singer-songwriter Pierce Edens draws on his Appalachian songwriting roots and blends them with the grungy rock ‘n’ roll sounds that took him in his teenage years.
The result is a mixture that is hard to pin down. No Depression classifies Edens as “a gritty troubadour who takes what he needs from each style, blending and bending it to suit the needs of his songs.”
Tickets for the shows — $25 each — are available online at www.avalontheatre.com or by calling the Avalon box office (410-822-7299).
