Trumpeter Chris Botti will perform Thursday, Dec. 5, at Chesapeake College.

WYE MILLS — Grammy Award-winning musician Chris Botti, who has performed with Joni Mitchell, Sting, Lady Gaga and Frank Sinatra, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in the “Avalon at Chesapeake College” concert series.

A trumpeter who is at home in everything from jazz to pop to rock, Botti has established himself as an important, innovative figure of the contemporary music world.

In 2013, his album “Impressions” won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental.

Performing worldwide and selling more than 4 million albums throughout his career, Botti has amassed a variety of other honors, including multiple gold and platinum albums, and has become the nation’s largest-selling instrumental artist.

Playing with his expressive sound and soaring musical imagination, Botti’s success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop music, while his ongoing association with PBS has led to four No. 1 jazz albums.

The acclaimed trumpeter also has performed with many of the finest symphonies and at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, from Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl to the Sydney Opera House and the Real Teatro di San Carlo in Italy.

Singer Shayna Steele will join Botti for this performance.

Having appeared on recordings with Snarky Puppy, Moby and a host of other stars, Steele is known for a soulful energy.

She has performed with Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, Bette Midler and Steely Dan as a sought-after backing vocalist. She made the decision to step out from her role as a background singer and has been touring regularly as a featured vocalist with Botti; and reached No. 1 on the Billboard dance charts as a featured vocalist on Moby’s “Disco Lies.”

Tickets for the show, which will take place in the Todd Performing Arts Center, range in price from $90 to $200, and are available at the Avalon box office (410-822-7299) or online at
