EASTON The Talbot Interfaith Shelter, Talbot County's only emergency cold weather shelter, opens its fourth season today at the Temple B'Nai Israel, which is hosting the shelter all month.

"If you are in need of shelter or know someone who is, please call 410-253-5414," said Evelyn Sedlack, TIS founder and board member.

Since the shelter closed for the season, TIS volunteers have received 86 calls for shelter.

Julie Lowe, president of the TIS board, said the need for shelter has increased since TIS opened. Without support from the eight host congregations, eight partner congregations and more than 600 volunteers, more people would lack housing during the cold, harsh winter.

"The struggling economy affects us all, but none more than the homeless poor in our area who have zero resources except for the outreach ministries of the faith communities, the service organizations in the area and compassionate souls in the community," she said.

To volunteer, call 410-310-2316. Find TIS on Facebook or online at www.talbotinterfaith.org.
