PRESTON — Zachary Bee of Federalsburg, a rising senior and finance major at University of Maryland’s College Park campus, was selected as the recipient of the Choptank Transport Business Scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Bee was invited to visit Choptank Transport and take a tour of the Preston headquarters. After walking through the logistics and sales floors, Zach spent some time speaking with Choptank CFO Marcia Wood to learn more about the finance side of freight brokerage.
“Choptank Transport seems like a great company to work for,” Bee said. “Freight brokerage is interesting to me as a job. It was good to learn how the company operates in logistics and finance. I like the way the business model is set up, and Choptank’s hospitality certainly opened my eyes to a world of opportunity.”
The scholarship, established in 2012, was created in hopes of furthering the education of undergraduate students who otherwise might not have the opportunity.
The goal is to provide aid to business students interested in future employment, including but not limited to, transportation and third-party logistics. Freight brokerage is a growing field that provides solutions between manufacturers and carriers.
