Students collect food for the needy

EASTON — As they have for many years, students from Saints Peter & Paul Elementary School provided a large quantity of food for needy families in Talbot County for Thanksgiving.

In a ceremony on Nov. 20, students, parents and faculty collected 50 turkeys, vegetables, pies and additional food. The food was donated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul who, in turn, delivered it to the Talbot County Department of Social Services for distribution to needy families.

“What makes it special is the children collecting and donating the food,” said St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry Director Kathy Weaver. “The prayer service is so moving, so unique. I look forward to it every year.”

St. Vincent de Paul also collects toys for Christmas, via an Angel Tree at Saints Peter & Paul Church in Easton and hosts a Christmas party for the families of those housed at the Talbot County Detention Center in Easton.

The food pantry is located at 29533 Canvasback Drive, Easton. For more information about the Society of St. Vincent de Paul call 410-770-4505 or visit the society website at www.svdpeastonmd.org.
