EASTON — The Easton Branch of the American Association of University Women honored 10 “Leaders of the March: Women Who Make a Difference” at a Zoom meeting on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Mid-Shore non-profits were invited to nominate a woman who has made an exceptional contribution to their organizations. AAUW has hosted this celebration of noteworthy local women every other year since 2002.

The 2020 honorees are Wanda C. Molock (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Kappa Theta Omega Chapter), Dr. Sharron Cassavant (AAUW, Easton, MD Branch), Dr. Jeanne Halpin (League of Women Voters of the Mid-Shore), Carol Anderson (Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence), Dyshekia Strawberry (NAACP, Talbot County Branch), MaryHelen Gillen (Pickering Creek Audubon Center), Meg Stein (Positive Strides), Daphan Smith (Scott’s United Methodist Church), Nancy Lutes (Talbot County Women’s Club), and Cherie Spector (YMCA YKnots Group.)

“Women Who Make a Difference 2020” was originally scheduled in March, but after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the event to be postponed, AAUW moved to a virtual format in place of the traditional luncheon.

Each nominating organization described the accomplishments of their honoree, highlighting her impact on their group and the wider community. The virtual gathering paid tribute to the 10 honorees and acquainted other groups with the mission of each of the participating organizations.

“Although these ‘Leaders of the March’ contributed their talents in very different arenas, they are united by their selfless commitment and dedication to others,” an AAUW press release stated.

In addition to celebrating “ten remarkable women,” the event provided a forum for all to learn about the diverse ways that women volunteers enrich the Mid-Shore.
