Some 75 to 100 people turned out Monday morning, Sept. 20, at the intersection of Route 301 and Route 19 to pay their final respects to Marine Staff Sgt. Darin Taylor Hoover as his funeral procession traveled from Dover Air Force Base to Arlington National Cemetery.

Hoover, 31, was the oldest of the 13 service members killed in the suicide bombing at the airport in Kubal airport in Afghanistan. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was 11 when 9/11 happened. His father told NBC that Hoover felt called to serve. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. He was on his third tour in Afghanistan when he was killed.

The crowd included three trucks from Church Hill Volunteer Fire Department, deputies from the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office, members of multiple groups within the Jeff Davis American Legion Post and troopers with Maryland State Police, who handled traffic control.
