EASTON — Easton police on May 1 arrested an Easton man during a traffic stop.

According to a news release, Easton police officers stopped a vehicle that failed to yield the right of way and almost hit the police vehicle.

Police said the driver was Joshua Butler, 31, of Easton.

As officers asked for the vehicle registration, they saw a box of handgun ammunition in the glove box, police said. They asked if there were any firearms in the vehicle and Butler said there was a handgun, according to police. Upon further questioning, Butler told the officers he did not have a concealed carry permit through the state of Maryland, police said.

The officers recovered a loaded 9 mm Smith & Wesson handgun from the vehicle’s glove box, police said.

Butler was arrested and charged with having a loaded handgun in a vehicle. He was released on personal recognizance, according to online court records.
