GRASONVILLE — Deputies from the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office and allied police agencies searched the woods near several Grasonville neighborhoods after reports of gunfire near Fisher Manor late Sunday afternoon, May 17.

Deputies and troopers from Maryland State Police Centreville responded shortly after 4 p.m. to several citizen reports of shots fired behind Fisher Manor; as deputies approached, a couple guys wearing dark-colored clothing ran into the woods behind the apartment complex, said Capt. Chris Amoia of the sheriff’s office.

Deputies and troopers were joined by Centreville police to canvass the area, and a police K-9 was brought in to search for the subjects, who were wanted only for questioning.

“You always want to make sure everybody is safe,” Amoia said. “We took every precaution to make sure everyone was safe.”

The Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services notified residents of The Woods, The Greens, Fisher Manor and nearby residences to stay indoors while the search was taking place.

If the gunshots were target practice, the person shooting must have taken everything with them. Police found no weapons or shell casings, and the subjects who ran into the woods seemingly vanished, Amoia said. He said it’s possible the sounds were fireworks.

Shortly before 6 p.m., DES issued a notice that it was safe for residents to leave their homes.
