EASTON — A St. Michaels man is facing drunk driving charges following his Tuesday, Feb. 25, arrest in Easton.
According to a news release, an Easton police officer initiated a traffic stop on a 2008 Nissan spinning its wheels at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Dover Road.
Police said the driver of the Nissan turned its headlights off when the officer turned on his emergency lights. The Nissan then turned into an industrial park, where it eventually stopped, police said.
The officer smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the breath of the driver, Patrick Merrah, 28, of St. Michaels, according to police.
Merrah was arrested after he refused to perform field sobriety tests, police said.
He was charged with driving under the influence, driving while impaired, negligent driving, reckless driving, failing to obey a traffic control device, turning off light to avoid Identification, driving across private property to avoid a traffic control device, attempting to elude police and spinning wheels.
Police said Easton Service Center towed the Nissan from the scene, and Merrah was released to his parents.
