EASTON — Easton police on Feb. 22 arrested an Easton man and Denton woman on theft charges.

According to a news release, officers responded to Kohls on Marlboro Avenue to investigate a report of a shoplifting in progress.

Police said they watched surveillance video showing Kevin D. Fortune, 48, of Easton and Melanie A. Wooters, 42, of Denton concealing items and leaving the store without paying for them.

When officers stopped and searched the pair, they found on Wooters a pill believed to be diazepam.

Fortune and Wooters each were charged with theft less than $100. Wooters also was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Police said she was held at the Talbot County Detention Center until she could be seen by a district court commissioner; she then was released on $1,000 unsecured bond, according to online court records. Fortune was charged on a criminal citation and released.
