DENTON — There will be a vacancy at the end of this calendar year on the Caroline County Board of Education. The vacancy is an appointed seat currently held by member George Abner.

Caroline County Public Schools has a hybrid board of elected and appointed positions. Currently, the appointed members are Abner and Kathy Dill. While Dill said she has chosen to ask the governor to reappoint her for another term, Abner’s position will be complete at the end of the year, and he is not seeking reappointment. That appointment to fill that vacancy will be up to the Governor as well.

Elected members Tolbert Rowe and Louise Cheek’s terms also expire this year. Those posts will be voted on in the November General Election, where Caroline County District 1 residents will have the chance to select either Donna DiGiacomo or Bryan Ebling and in District 2, either Richard Barton or Paul Schoonover.

Appointments to the Board of Education are handled through the governor’s office, however, interested applicants can contact County Commissioner Dan Franklin for the link to apply.
