Seven new COVID-19 cases were reported on Thursday, Oct. 15.

EASTON — There are seven new coronavirus cases in Talbot County, bringing the total local cases to 600 since the pandemic began in March.

The Talbot County Health Department reported the seven new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, Oct. 15. There are currently 31 active coronavirus cases in the county. Talbot County has had 57 patients hospitalized for virus since the pandemic’s inception.

The local positivity rate for COVID tests remains low, coming in at 1.48%, according to Thursday’s report.

The Maryland Department of Health reported a slight drop in hospitalizations also on Oct. 15. There are currently 412 coronavirus patients hospitalized statewide. That is down five patients from the previous day. The state health department reported 630 new cases on Thursday bringing Maryland’s total to 133,548. There were six new deaths reported. Maryland has seen 3,883 people die from COVID-19 during the pandemic.

Nine of the state’s deaths from the virus have occurred in Talbot County.

Of the COVID patients currently hospitalized in Maryland, 109 are in intensive care, according to the state health department.

The statewide positivity rate came in a 3.08% Thursday. Positivity rates below 5% — and especially those below 3% — indicate positive trends with the spread of the virus.
