SKIPTON — A multiple-vehicle accident involving at least two boats being pulled on trailers caused major backups on U.S. Route 50 in Skipton Saturday afternoon, July 6.

Route 50 was closed in both directions for a short time.

Westbound traffic was backed to a standstill as much as 5 miles through the afternoon, from Skipton to the Tuckahoe Steam Show grounds.

Original scanner transmissions reported three or more vehicles involved and 10 patients. At least one patient was flown for treatment at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by Maryland State Police helicopter Trooper 6.

Fire companies from Queen Anne-Hillsboro, Queenstown, Cordova and others, Talbot County Emergency Services, the Maryland State Police and State Highway Administration emergency teams responded. The crash occurred shortly after noon.

The investigation is ongoing.
