CRHS marching band

MIDDLETOWN, Del. — The Colonel Richardson High School Spirit of the Revolution Marching Band, led by drum majors Gillian Cheezum and Kendall Blunt, opened its competition season by competing in the Tournament of Bands at Middletown High School in Delaware.

CRHS competed in the Open class and received a score of 72.8.

This year’s show, “Escape Velocity,” features four movements and a host of songs, including “Rocket Man” by Elton John, “Space Oddity” by David Bowie and “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra.

The CRHS Spirit of the Revolution also competed in a second contest at Queen Anne’s County High School, where its scored a 74.650 in the 1A ‘O’ class.

Tournament contests are held year-round throughout a nine-state area in the mid-Atlantic region, providing a competitive arena for marching bands. Hundreds of bands compete in field shows September through November.

Students from Caroline County complete in Region 9, which encompasses Delaware and Eastern Maryland.
