EASTON — Maryland State Police are investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday, July 28.

Rebecca Lee Garner, 31, of Denton, who was driving a 2020 Kia Optima, died in the crash, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services personnel. Passenger Donald Lee Lord, 32, of Denton, was flown by Medevac helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., troopers from the Easton barracks responded to the report of a crash on westbound Maryland Route 328/New Bridge Road, west of Fisher Road in Caroline County. Responding troopers found the car overturned and on its left side up against a telephone pole. The Maryland State Police Crash Team responded and assumed the investigation.

Police said an autopsy is being performed on Garner by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore. Lord’s condition is unknown at this time. The cause and contributing factors of the crash remain under investigation.

Maryland Route 328 was closed in both directions following the crash for investigation and reconstruction. State Highway Administration personnel assisted with a detour around the crash scene. The investigation is continuing.
