Crash on Bay Bridge

A car and van crashed head-on just east of the toll plaza on the Bay Bridge Friday morning, Aug. 2.

ANNAPOLIS — Two vehicles collided east of the Bay Bridge toll plaza early the morning of Friday, Aug. 2.

According to police reports, a 2006 Volvo S60 driven by Jean Stevens of Englewood, Fla., was traveling west when it crashed head-on into a second vehicle traveling east.

Stevens, 39, crossed over the line, hitting another vehicle at the 32.9 mile marker in Anne Arundel County, police said. Her car hit a Ford Transit Uhaul, driven by Wilson Garcia of Virginia. Garcia and a passenger were taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

Stevens and her passenger also were treated for possible injuries. Reports indicate the airbags deployed in both vehicles. The bridge was in two-way operation (not divided) at the time of the crash and conditions were dry.

The police report said contributing factors in the crash included talking or listening to a cellphone.
