HURLOCK — Vibrations from an explosion in Dorchester County were felt as far as Trappe and Preston. According to reports, the 9-1-1 call for an explosion was received around 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Residents in the area of Blinkhorn Road near Hurlock reported hearing gunfire and seeing heavy smoke. Some reported feeling their house and the ground shake and another said it sounded like a rocket taking off.
Fire and sheriff’s department units responded to the call and were reportedly on scene for about 30 minutes before clearing.
According to preliminary information, the explosion is believed to be a result of target shooting. The Dorchester Sheriff’s Office did not confirm the information and said they are waiting to release an official statement. Bystanders suggested the targets contained Tannerite, the commonly known name of a binary explosive components, an illegal and highly explosive material.
