Fire destroys pole barn in Worton

Monday night’s fire on Clark Road destroyed a 32-foot by 30-foot wood frame pole barn and its contents.

WORTON — Investigators with the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal are reporting that a pole barn and its contents are “considered to be a complete loss” due to fire Monday night.

The fire at 11980 Clark Road originated in the interior of the 32-foot by 30-foot wood frame barn.

The cause has not been determined.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Upper Eastern Regional Office of the state fire marshal at 410-822-7609.

A passerby alerted the homeowners and called 911 shortly after 9 p.m., according to a news release. A total of 40 volunteer firefighters answered the alarm and brought the fire under control in 35 minutes. Betterton was the primary responding fire department.

No injuries were reported.

According to the news release, a pickup truck, a John Deere Gator, three all-terrain vehicles, a dirt bike and a riding lawnmower were in the barn at the time of the fire.The property owners were identified as James and Jayde Meikle.
