Crime scene - tape

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. —  A Florida man in a wheelchair was killed by a hit-and-run driver crossing a busy highway.

Police are looking for the driver who hit and killed Gary Boisvert, 63, as he crossed U.S. Highway 19 on Oct. 7.

The busy roadway traverses Pinellas County on Florida’s west coast. Police say Boisvert was crossing the road at Mainlands Boulevard at 8 p.m. and was hit by a white compact sedan.

“Investigators determined Gary Boisvert was crossing US Highway 19 N in the crosswalk against the "Do Not Walk" signal. At the time, Gary Boisvert was traveling in a wheelchair under his power.  The suspect vehicle was traveling south on US Highway 19 and increased its speed as they approached a yellow light at the intersection.  The suspect vehicle struck Gary Boisvert and the wheelchair, then fleeing the scene without rendering any aid or notifying law enforcement.”
