On Wednesday, Feb. 15, on the bottom of the front page of the "Star," there began an article about the Eastern Shore Bluegrass Association by Connie Connolly which was continued on page 7.
My husband, Tom Sparks, a bluegrass musician, belongs to the ESBA and is a current member of the board of directors for the organization. He is always an active organizer and participant in the "kitchen pickers" groups at the Denton American Legion monthly.
Ms. Connolly's article was a shining example of good local journalism, so much needed in our country, especially now. Like Mr. Towers' wife, I was oblivious to bluegrass music until the early ’90s when my husband purchased a Dobro and began looking for jam groups in the area. My father was a classical musician in Cincinnati and my sister and I were discouraged from listening to "hill-billy" music. Now I feel the need to soothe my soul with good bluegrass daily as if it's my touch stone.
The friends my husband and I have made over the last 3 1/2 decades through bluegrass are many of our closest. I feel indebted to all aspects of bluegrass music. All music lovers of any persuasion should attend the next ESB event on March 19. The music begins at 1 p.m.
