I feel I must respond to a letter, entitled, Classified Documents, which was printed in a recent paper. The author states, 'There is no comparison between the current president and the others', ie: the duo who lost the 2020 election. I could not agree more, but not in the way this gentleman was implying!
The comparison is really between President Biden and the former guy, and their possession of classified documents. The writer states that as VP, Biden had no right to take or declassify documents. I’m not certain of the taking, but he did have the right to declassify them, as the result of a 2009 executive order.
The former president took thousands of documents, many marked Top Secret or Classified. He was asked to return them, on more than one occasion, and refused, necessitating a legal search by the FBI. He fought this action, for months, in the courts, and then made the ludicrous statement that he could declassify documents with his mind. Holy delusion, Batman!
I believe less than a dozen documents have been found at the Penn-Biden Center and the President’s home in Delaware. The disparity in the number of documents is significant, but it is not the most important difference in this situation. What stands out is the cooperation by President Biden and his team, and the immediate notification of the Justice Department and The National Archives.
The discovery of documents in the homes and offices of President Biden, Vice President Pence, and that other guy, certainly point to a need for a revamped policy/procedure for dealing with such documents. And, make no mistake, there is no comparison between these two presidents.
