The library is opening! The library is opening!

Lo these many COVID months our librarians have kept us informed and engaged via email and Zoom. They’ve provided “Books on the Go,” enabling us to check out a book and pick it up and return it when we’re finished reading it. They’ve made it possible to use a computer by appointment. They’ve read books to children. They’ve suggested book selections on themes like special history months. They’ve provided community notices and information. We’ve watched a video on the library website and, along with the children, we could even learn to play the ukulele. And now the library is opening!

The county budget preparation will soon be underway for the coming fiscal year. I expect that the library will request funding for the next stage of enlarging the St. Michael’s branch. The plan includes enlarged space for children’s books, additions to the teen area, study rooms, meeting rooms, and new technology. Planning the expansion of the St. Michael’s branch has been underway for quite some time. We can encourage the county to fund the library request. It’s a way of saying “Thank you” to the librarians in appreciation for keeping us informed and keeping us reading during the many months of COVID.
