U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin stopped by the Frederick Douglass Room of the Talbot County Free Library on Friday, Feb. 16 to honor the legacy of Talbot County's native son. The 2:30 p.m. visit was part of Cardin's daylong swing through the Eastern Shore that began in Salisbury. About two dozen local leaders, including Mayor Robert Willey, were on hand for the brief visit.
The formal dedication and groundbreaking ceremony of Frederick Douglass Park on the Tuckahoe on Wednesday, Feb. 14, will include the presence of at least two descendants of the 19th century American patriot, abolitionist and former slave. Other dignitaries, a color guard and gospel choir also will take part in the ceremony to rename the 67-acre park after the county’s renowned native son.
