STEVENSVILLE — Estate Treasures, an upscale resale shop in Chester, hosted an art auction in September to benefit Compass Regional Hospice. The event, held at Cascia Vineyards, 1200 Thompson Creek Road, Stevensville, raised more than $4,000 for hospice care and grief support services for individuals and families in Queen Anne’s, Kent and Caroline counties.

An operating unit of Compass Regional Hospice, Estate Treasures has been raising money for hospice care and grief support provided by Compass Regional Hospice for more than 25 years.

During the auction, guests enjoyed light refreshments and a complimentary glass of Cascia Vineyards wine. The event featured live and silent auctions, where guests were able to bid on a variety of art, including watercolors and prints, some which were created and signed by local artists whose work reflected scenes from the Eastern Shore.

There were more than 40 pieces auctioned and sold during the event, including a rare large antique 1920s S. Perkins 10-inch ship lamp. All artwork was donated to Estate Treasures, and Cascia Vineyards offered its waterfront facility so all proceeds from the auction could benefit the work of Compass Regional Hospice.

Compass Regional Hospice takes care of infants and children, as well as adults in need of its programs, which include hospice care and grief support services. No one is ever turned away from Compass Regional Hospice based on an inability to pay, and grief support services are available for free to anyone in the community who is suffering the loss of a loved one.

In addition to hospice and grief support programs, Compass Regional Hospice offers Bridges, a free community program that provides non-medical supportive services and encouragement for individuals who have been diagnosed with a serious illness.

As a nonprofit organization, Compass Regional Hospice relies on financial support from the community to provide services not covered by Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance.

It's always great when an auction can benefit a cause or bring helpful aid to others, and Estate Treasures should be commended for their aid with Compass Regional Hospice to provide better hospital care and grief services for families.
