TRAPPE — Talbot County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Trappe man late Wednesday night, Aug. 28, after he allegedly stabbed his father’s girlfriend.
According to the sheriff’s office, Orville Nelson Conaway Jr., 19, stabbed Debra Lynn Alford, 56, on the left side of her head at about 10 p.m. Conaway Jr. and Alford live in the same home at 4808 Old Trappe Road.
Police said Alford was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment, and her injuries were not life-threatening.
Conaway Jr. is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, two counts each of first- and second-degree assault, two counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of possession with a dangerous weapon with intent to injure. He is being held at the Talbot County Detention Center without bond.
According to charging documents, Alford and Orville Conaway Sr. returned home at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, and Conaway Jr. was in the house. Police said Alford went into a bedroom, and Conaway Jr. followed her and stabbed her on the left side of her head.
Police said Conaway Jr. left the bedroom, retrieved another knife and went into the front yard.
According to charging documents, Conaway Sr. tried to help Alford, then yelled for help out the window. Police said while Conaway Sr. yelled for help, his son swung the knife at his head but missed before fleeing the scene.
Responding deputies found Conaway Jr. a short distance from the home and arrested him without incident, police said.
